The Final of The English Schools Cross Country Cup took place at Southend High School for Girls with nine Warrington Athletic Club athletes representing their schools. In the Junior Boys race Sam Evans and Ben Harrison were part of the Bridgewater High School team. Sam who had an excellent run last week in the Cross Challenge at Liverpool gave a repeat performance being highest finisher from the club as he finished in 5th place in 11 minutes 41 seconds missing out on a Medal by just 6 seconds. Ben also had a very good run finishing 73rd in 12 minutes 48 seconds. Both boys are still in the same age group next year. Bridgewater finished in 15th place in the team event.
In the Junior Girls race Isabel Trevithick and Lara Spiteri representing Bridgewater High ran well to finish in 55th and 114th places recording 11 minutes 13 seconds and 11 minutes 57 seconds respectively while Mary Knowles representing Loreto Grammar School Altrincham finished in 118th place in 12 minutes 01 seconds. Loreto finished 17th and Bridgewater 21st in the team event.
In the Intermediate Girls Lymm High School had a great team result taking the silver medals. The team were led in by Victoria Ramsbottom in 14th place closely followed by Melissa Boyer 15th and Lauren Ferris 19th recording 12 minutes 43 seconds, 12 minutes 46 seconds and 12 minutes 50 seconds respectively. The team was completed by Sarah McGrail making her comeback after a long injury layoff and finishing in 63rd place in 13 minutes 44 seconds. Without doubt if it had been a fully fit Sarah running then Lymm would have been going home with gold.
