British Athletics under 20&23 Championships 21st/22nd June 2014

Four Warrington Athletic Club athletes travelled to Bedford for the UK under 20 and Under 23 Championships including the trials for the World under 20 Championships over the weekend of 21st/22nd June and came away with two medals.Top performance came from under 17 Harriet Knowles-Jones who moved up an age group to compete in the 3000 metres.Taking the lead from the gun Harriet ground out a relentless pace which gradually broke her opponents till she reached the final lap with only 3 left close behind her.with around 300 metres remaining she accelerated and began to open her lead to come home to the Gold Medal in a new Personal Best time of 9 minutes 23.76 seconds which improves her own club under 17 and under 20 records and is the leading time in the UK in both age groups this year and moves her to 8th in the UK all time under 17 list.
The second medal came in the under 23 menís 110 metres hurdles where James Gladman took the Bronze Medal.James had an operation on his hip during the winter and is still to regain full fitness.In his heat he ran a seasonís best time to win in 14.14 seconds but was unable to produce the same performance and had to settle for the Bronze in 14.34 seconds.
In the under 20 menís 400 metres hurdles James Webster finished 3rd in his heat in 55.15 seconds to qualify forthe final.In the final he finishedin 7th place in 54.82 seconds.In the under 20 menís 1500 metres Cameron Field in a tactical race was unable to go with the pace when it picked up and he finishedin 11th place in 4 minutes 08.37 seconds.
