The English National Indoor Age Group Championships were held over the weekend of 28th February/1st March at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield with 5 Warrington Athletic Club athletes competing.

The top performance came from Carys McAulay in the under 20 Womenís 800 metres. In the heat on Saturday Carys came up against fellow Scot Mhairi Hendry, who 2 weeks ago in the British Senior Championships had broken the Scottish under 20 record, for the first time.Carys knew that she only needed to finish in a time under 2 minutes 15seconds to reach the final and settled for 3rd place in 2 minutes 13.67 seconds to go into the final as a fastest loser. In the final when they broke from lanes Carys found herself boxed in on the kerb as Hendry took the pace but did not panic and waited till the final lap when the field began to spread out as the pace picked up.With 100 metres left She got a clear run and produced a superb finish to storm past Hendry as they entered the finishing straight to take the Gold Medal in 2 minutes 10.15 seconds with Hendry holding on for a Scottish 1-2.

In the under 15 Boys 200 metres Thomas Baines who had won the Northern title a few weeks ago won his heat in 23.87 seconds to go through to the final. In the final he was in the outside lane with Thomas Casson (Poole Ac) the Southern Champion in lane 5.Thomas went off fast pursued by Casson and as they came of the final bend it looked as if Casson was going to go clear but Thomas fought back to retake the lead only for Casson to come back again to grab the Gold in the final 2 strides in 23.61 seconds with Thomas getting the Silver in 23.64 seconds.

In the under 17 sprints Fisayo Williamson-Taylor was 6th in his heat in the 60 metres on Saturday with 7.44 seconds and on Sunday he was 4th in his 200 metres heat with 23.72 seconds but not progressing in either to the next round.

In the under 17 Menís 60 metres Hurdles on Sunday Cameron Meakin finished 5th in his heat in 8.56 seconds but missed out on the final while in the under 17 Womenís 800 metres on Saturday Melissa Boyer finished in 4th place in her heat in 2 minutes 23.22 seconds but failed to progress to the final.
