North of England Cross Country Championships Witton Park Blackburn 30th January 2016

The North of England Cross Country Championships were held in Witton Country Park Blackburn on Saturday 30th January where Warrington Athletic Club had a small turnout of 15 runners competing over courses which were extremely wet and muddy and in weather which included intermittent hail showers.
The day started with the under 17 Women's race where excellent runs by Katie Lowery (6th in 19 minutes 13 seconds) and Lauren Ferris (8th in 19 minutes 37 seconds) leading the team home.Backed up by Lauren Goddard (44th in 21 minutes 21 seconds) and Jasmin Dobson (51st in 21 minutes 40 seconds) the team took the Silver Medals with 109 points.Victoria Ramsbottom completed the squad in 85th place in 24 minutes 27 seconds.
Next up were the under 15 boys where Sam Evans dwarfed by most of his opponents in the leading pack ran a superb race breaking clear with Josh Cowperthwaite (Middlesborough AC).As they approached the hills on the course Cowperthwaite head and shoulders taller than Sam and a year older began to go clear.Sam continued to fight and although losing ground on the hills began to close the gap towards the finish and held on for the Silver Medal in 14 minutes 47 seconds only 12 seconds behind.Behind Sam Joe Buckley ran an excellent race working his way through the field to finish in 19th place in 15 minutes 29 seconds and close behind him also running well was Jordan Jones in 24th place in 15 minutes 37 seconds.
In the under 15 girls race India Hayes had an excellent run to finish in 19th place in 18 minutes 01 seconds despite losing a shoe around the half way mark and Isabelle Trevithick also ran well to finish 71st in 19 minutes 21 seconds.
In the under 13 Boys Lucas Hayes ran well to finish in 46th place in 13 minutes 48 seconds while Joe Scutt had a good run to finish in 64th place in 14 minutes 04 seconds and Joe Roberts fought all the way to finish 134th in 15 minutes 07 seconds.
In the under 17 Men's race Jack Stubbings ran excellently to work his way through the field finishing in 11th place in 20 minutes 36 seconds while in the under 20 Men's race Daniel Evans plugged away to finish in 54th place in 33 minutes 02 seconds.
