Paralympic Games Rio de Janiero Brazil 2016

Former Warrington Athletic Club runner Alison Patrick a former World Champion at 800 metres and Silver Medallist at 1500 metres in the World Championships for the Blind in Rio a few years ago who gave up track running due to injuries turned to Paratriathlon in 2013.Her new sport was an almost instant success and after winning ITU Championships in 2014 and 2015,European Championship in 2015 and World Championships in 2016 she was selected for the Paralympics team for Rio 2016.
In the Paratriathlon held on Sunday 11th September competing in the P5 category with her guide Hazel Smith Alison was in 2nd place after the 750 metres swim with a time of 15 minutes 49 seconds.On exiting transition (1 minute 29 seconds) she had dropped to 3rd place and remained in that position following the 22.28 Kilometre bike ride (Tandem Bike)which was covered in 34 minutes 01 seconds.Transition took 54 seconds and with a time of 21 minutes 07 seconds for the 5 Kilometres run Alison moved back into the Silver Medal position in a total time of 1 hour 13 minutes 20 seconds.
The race was won by Australia’s Katie Kelly guided by 2000 Olympic Silver Medallist Michellie Jones in 1 hour 12 minutes 18 seconds and Alison’s teammate Melissa Reid with guide Nicole Walters took the Bronze with 1 hour 14 minutes 07 seconds.
