Manchester Area XC League Kenworthy Woods I 2nd December 2017

Thirty Warrington AC athletes competed in the third round of the Manchester Area Cross Country League at Manchester University's Kenworthy Woods on Saturday 2nd December. It was great to see our athletes really going for it today on a challenging muddy course. We had some really impressive performances.

Warrington AC successfully came away with three individual GOLDS one SILVER and one team GOLD - with Orla Gregory winning the U13 girls race, Joe Buckley winning the U17 men's race, Stephen Watmough winning the V55 race, Luke Gamble taking 2nd in the U20 men's race and our U17 men (Joe Buckley, Jordan Jones and Jack Wadsworth) winning the U17 team.

The day started with the under 11 age group where in the boys race Rory Gregory ran well to finish in 16th place in 7.39 mins with Jacob Pryor close behind in 19th place in 7.50 mins.

In the U11 girls race, Eva Karalius ran well to finish in 9th place in 7.43 mins and along with Corin Smith 29th and Esme Heavey 30th both recording 8.23 the team finished in 7th place. Rhiannon Wilkes finished 37th in 8.32 and Harriet Bell was 52nd in 9.03 mins.

Orla Gregory won the U13 girls race with an impressive performance finishing in 11.13 mins. Orla was backed up by Molly Wormald in 21st place in 12.29 and Lucie Davies 27th in 12.40 for 5th team. Emily Entwistle was 32nd in 12.45, Maisie Bell 39th in 12.58 and Amelia Smithers 55th in 13.23 were 16th team and 5th B team. Jasmine Jones completed the squad in 78th place in 14.14 mins.

In the U13 boys Erik Marshall had his highest finish in the series so far finishing in 6th place in 10.45 and Ben Pucill ran well to finish in 33rd place in 11.53.

In the under 15 age group Joel Birchall had an excellent run to finish in 7th place with a time of 14.18 seconds with Isaaq Ataullah 16th in 14.36 seconds.

In the U15 girls race Siobhan Gregory finished in 27th in 17.39 while Fay Humphreys was 48th in 20.12

The second win of the day came in the under 17 men’s race with Joe Buckley being a comfortable winner in 19.50 mins with Jordan Jones 4th in 20.17 and Jack Wadsworth 5th in 20.48 to easily win the team race on 10 points. And Charlie Turnbull ran well to finish in 19th place in 23.27 mins.

In the under 17 women’s race Lucy Baxter ran well finishing 10th in 25.30 with Olivia Baxter 13th in 25.51.

In the Senior /under 20 women’s race Rachel McQuillan finished in 133rd place in a time of 41.48 seconds to place 9th in the under 20 age group.

The day was brought to a close by the Senior/under 20 men’s race where Spanish recruit Pablo Artime who following his baptism in English Cross country at Boggart hole Clough ran an excellent race gradually moving through after a steady start to finish in 14th place in 34.55 and was closely followed by under 20 Luke Gamble in 18th place in 35.15 for 2nd in his age group. The final runner for the club in 77th place was Steve Watmough with a time of 38.39 mins to be the third winner of the day taking 1st place in the over 55 age group.
