Cheshire Cross Country Championships at Delamere Forest I 6th January 2018

The Cheshire Cross Country Championships were held at Delamere Forest on Saturday 6th January over an undulating course with one section which was a sea of liquid mud.

The day started with the under 11s and proved to be very successful for Warrington Athletic Club. In the Girls race Alice Nicholson had her best race to date with a superb Bronze Medal in 9 minutes 33 seconds as she led her team of Esme Heavey (9.49) in 6th place and Corin Smith (9.55) in 9th place to the team Gold Medals with 18 points. The B team of Rhiannon Wilkes (9.56), Evie Owen (9.56) and Harriet Bell (10.06) were 5th with 33 points and the squad was completed by Isabella Eden (10.47) in 21st place.

In the Boys race three excellent runs from Benedict Kennedy 7th in 8 minutes 45 seconds, Jacob Pryor 9th in 8 minutes 47 seconds and Rory Gregory 10th in 8 minutes 52 seconds made it double Gold Medals in the age group as they took the team title with 26 points.

In the under 13 age group Girls race Orla Gregory continued her good form as she finished in 4th place with 13 minutes 57 seconds just missing out on the Bronze Medal. With Eva Ferris 16th and Maisie Bell 17th both in 15 minutes 35 seconds the team finished in 4th place on 37 points just 2 points away from 3rd. The B team of Emily Entwistle (15.40) in 18th, Lucie Davies (15.45) 20th and Molly Wormald (16.42) 26th finished in 6th place on 64 points. The C team of Amelia Smithers (17.21) 31st, Shauna Clarke (17.58) 33rd and Grace Edwards (20.01) 38th finished in 10th place on 102 points.

In the Boys race Erik Marshall ran well to finish in 9th place in 13 minutes 24 seconds and was supported by Reece Connell (14.53) 24th and Jacob Cox (15.13) 25th the team finished in 7th place on 58 points. Ben Pucill ran well to finish in 26th place in 15 minutes 18 seconds.

In the under 15 age group Girls race Jess Connolly ran well to finish in 6th place in 25 minutes 12 seconds while in the Boys race Joel Birchall had an excellent race finishing in 5th place in 20 minutes 21 seconds. And Isaaq Ataullah ran well finishing in 9th in 20 minutes 56 seconds.

In the under 17 Girls race Lucy Baxter ran well to finish in 9th place in 31 minutes 25 seconds while Olivia Baker finished in 14th place in 34 minutes 13 seconds.

In the Boys race Jordan Jones Ran an impressive race, leading from the start, to take the Gold Medal comfortably in 23 minutes 20 seconds, which was 30 seconds clear of the 2nd place athlete. Joe Buckley wasn't very well but ran well to finish the race in (25.12) 7th, and Jack Wadsworth had a great run finishing in (25.32) 9th. They took the team Silver Medals on 17 points. And Charlie Turnbull ran well to finish 18th in 28 minutes 31 seconds.

In the under 20 Womens race Lauren Ferris took the Bronze Medal in 27 minutes 26 seconds and with Lauren Goddard (31.04) 6th and Rachel McQuillan (35.53) 7th they won the team Gold Medals on 17 points.

In the Mens under 20 race Daniel Fox ran well to finish in 5th place in 31 minutes 22 seconds and along with Luke Gamble (33.23) 8th and Sam Rostron (34.44) 10th they took the team Silver Medals on 23 points.

In the Senior Womens race 20 year old Alysha Goddard had an excellent run to finish 10th in 37 minutes 24 seconds and with 2nd to 8th places being filled by Masters runners she was actually the 3rd senior athlete to finish .Alysha was supported by Joanna Robbins making her club debut having transferred from Sale Harriers finishing in 58th place in 45 minutes 07 seconds 9th over 45 and Emma Pryor 69th in 46 minutes 43 seconds 10th over 35 to finish 15th team on 137 points.

The day was brought to a close by the Senior Mens race where Pablo Artime finished in an excellent 9th place in 44 minutes 03 seconds. Next to finish was Henry Buttress (47.52) 18th having returned to the club after completing university. Steve Watmough (49.06) was next in 29th place finishing 2nd V55 followed by Chris Fance (49.47) in 37th place and David Gill (51.39)completed the club contingent in 54th place to finish 2nd V60.
