Great Edinburgh International Cross Country 13th January 2018

Warrington Athletic Club’s European under 20 Cross Country Champion Harriet Knowles-Jones made her debut at Senior level at Cross Country for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the Great Edinburgh Cross Country International in Holyrood Park Edinburgh on Saturday 13th January.Harriet who had won the under 20 race the previous year started well and was always in the chasing pack for the first two laps with Yasmine Can of Turkey running for Europe a few seconds clear.As the pace picked up the pack gradually spread out and Harriet was battling with teammate Verity Ockenden.Harriet held on strongly and eventually finished in 10th place just behind teammates Ockenden and Jess Judd and 2 seconds in front of twice European Champion Fionnuala McCormack.

Also running in Edinburgh was under 20 Katie Lowery who is studying at Edinburgh University and was selected by Scottish Students but elected to run for the guest North of England team who had also selected her.Katie ran well in the Inter District race finishing in 32nd place overall in 24 minutes 44 seconds which placed her 7th under 20.Katie was 6th counter for the North of England team which placed 1st but as guests were not eligible for medals.
